Game language
После базовой игры появляются drop, dink, reset, transition zone, speed-up и counter. Эти термины описывают управление темпом, высотой мяча и позицией пары.
Core concepts
The zone by the net is 2,13 m deep on each side. A volley is played from outside it; after a bounce, the ball may be played inside the zone.
The official English name for the kitchen, the zone that governs a player's position when volleying.
After the serve, the receiving side must let the ball bounce, and then the serving side must also let it bounce. After those two bounces, normal play begins.
A fast shot after the bounce. Used to apply pressure, attack open space and create a weak reply.
A soft shot from the back or transition zone that drops into the kitchen and helps the pair move forward.
A short controlled shot at the kitchen. The goal is to maintain a low trajectory and create a more convenient ball for the next action.
A shot played before the bounce. In pickleball it is especially important at the kitchen line and requires a compact paddle motion.
A soft defensive response to a fast ball that reduces pace and returns the rally to a more neutral state.
A short controlled volley against an opponent's speed-up. The paddle absorbs the ball's pace with minimal swing.
A speed-up from a soft kitchen exchange. The player selects a ball at a comfortable height and changes the rally pace.
A counter speed-up after the opponent attacks. It is often played with a short motion in front of the body.
A high ball behind a pair at the kitchen. It changes rally height and can force opponents away from the net.
An attacking overhead shot on a high ball.
A shot around the net post when the ball's trajectory allows it to enter the court from the side of the net system.
An attacking volley near the kitchen sideline, when the player occupies a legal position outside the zone and intercepts the ball earlier.
The transition zone between the baseline and the kitchen. Stopping, balance and reset under pressure are especially important here.
The third shot of the rally: the serving side's first shot after the return. It is often played as a drive or drop.
The serving pair's next shot after the opponent's return. Often used to continue the transition to the kitchen.
Intercepting a partner's ball when a player takes an advantageous position in advance to attack or apply pressure.
A doubles alignment that helps players keep their preferred sides after the serve or return.
Transfer of the right to serve to the other side after the serving sequence ends in the traditional system.
A system where only the serving side scores points. In doubles, the score is usually called with three numbers.
A system where the winner of each rally receives a point. The regulations define the specific serving and game-ending rules.
Round-robin format where participants or pairs play one another within a group.
Short rounds with movement between courts or positions based on match results.
A series of rounds where new pairings are formed from the participants' current results or points.
Seeding the strongest participants or pairs before the bracket or groups begin.
An international rating system for pickleball. PlayOn.social is integrated with DUPR for supported rating scenarios.
Drive maintains or increases ball speed. Drop moves the ball from deep court into the kitchen and helps progression forward. Dink is used at the kitchen for a low, controlled exchange.
Block more often describes a compact paddle response to a fast ball. Reset describes the purpose of the action: relieve pressure and return the ball softly into the kitchen. The same short contact can sometimes perform both functions.
ATP describes the ball's trajectory around the net post. Erne describes positioning and an early volley interception near the kitchen sideline.
Международные правила, видео и тренерские материалы используют английские термины. Русскому игроку полезно знать обе формы: «кухня / kitchen», «мягкий третий / third-shot drop», «переходная зона / transition zone».
