How to make sure the rule is understood
Understanding is not tested by retelling a definition, but by the same decision in two or three similar episodes, where the player must name a rule and immediately show the correct action on the court
Where the error occurs
You can't automatically use sideout scoring in a rally scoring event. The organizer must name the system in advance because the ending strategy and the meaning of each draw differ
When you need a primary source
An official tournament can specify the score system, the appeal procedure and the role of the referee, and use the current rulebook and published rules to determine the outcome of the competition, rather than the club arrangement
